Metal, Movement, and the Voice of the Voiceless

Valay Shende is a sculptor who transforms metal into powerful social narratives. Born in 1980 in Maharashtra, his work goes beyond aesthetics—it questions, provokes, and compels viewers to rethink the world around them. His signature style involves assembling stainless steel discs to create intricate, life-sized sculptures that feel both futuristic and deeply rooted in reality.

Shende’s sculptures often focus on urban life, migration, and the struggles of the working class. One of

his most striking works, "Transit," a massive truck carrying human figures, highlights the plight of laborers

who move in search of better lives but often remain invisible to society. His use of polished steel gives his sculptures a reflective quality, making the viewer a part of the artwork—forcing them to confront the realities he

portrays.

His work is not confined to galleries; his large-scale public installations bring art into everyday spaces, making social issues impossible to ignore. With a keen eye for detail and a deep understanding of contemporary struggles, Valay Shende’s sculptures don’t just stand still—they tell stories, challenge perceptions, and demand change.
